MARINE ENGINEERING TRAINING

ONE Year GME Course:

One of CSL's most rewarding contributions is its Marine Engineering Training Institute, located in the Shipyard premises.

CSL has received the certificate for implementing ISO-14001, Environmental Management System and OHSAS 18001, Occupational Health and Safety Management System, with the existing ISO-9001, Quality Management System from M/s DNV (Det Norske Veritas) of Quality Assurance for Marine Engineering Training. The International Maritime Organization and the Government of India approve its standards, and the training is rated "EXCELLENT" by independent organization CREDIT ANALYSIS AND RESEARCH LTD (CARE). Training Institute has to date turned out more than thousand five hundred competent marine engineers.

The course approved by Director General of Shipping is open to Graduates in Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture from institutions approved by All India Council of Technical Education. Maximum age limit is 28 years. Minimum qualifying marks, 50% marks in final year of Engineering graduation, and minimum 50% marks in English either in 10th standard or 12th standard.

Every year there will be two batches - one batch commences on 1st of January and the second batch commences on 1st of August. The duration of the course is 12 months.

The course covers the initial training requirements for joining a Ship as Junior Marine Engineer Officer as per STCW-95 code A-111/1 of International Maritime Organization.

The sanctioned capacity of the training institute is 140 per annum. The January batch will have an intake of 108 graduates and the August batch will have 32. Admission to the course is reserved for candidates Sponsored by Shipping Companies or their agents. For getting sponsorship, candidates have to approach the Shipping Companies. The physical fitness of the candidates is an important factor. They have to produce Medical Certificate from a Doctor approved by Directorate General of Shipping regarding their fitness for Marine Engineering Course in the prescribed format.

The course fee (applicable for the batches commencing in the year 2010) is Rs. 2,25,000/- inclusive of Boarding and Lodging, plus taxes if any applicable. For female candidates, there will be a reduction of 50% in Tuition fee (Subject to minimum four female candidates).

The following STCW-95 MODULAR COURSES (APPROVED BY DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SHIPPING) are conducted regularly in CSL situated in the heart of the City at an environment friendly location near the waterfront.

1. Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting Course (FPFF)
(two batches in a month) 3 days course; Fees: Rs. 1,800/-

2. Advanced Fire Fighting Course (AFF)
(conducted on request ) 6 days course; Fees: Rs. 6,000/-
