Shri Madhu S Nair

Chairman & Managing Director

Shri Madhu S Nair took over as the Chairman & Managing Director of Cochin Shipyard on January 01, 2016. He holds a degree of Bachelor of Technology (Naval Architecture and Ship Building) from Cochin University of Science & Technology in first class and Masters in Engineering (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering) from Osaka University, Japan. He has more than 30 years of professional experience with Cochin Shipyard Ltd since joining as Executive Trainee in June 1988 in the entire gamut of shipyard management. He was the key driver in forging alliances with international technology partners. He was also instrumental in conceptualizing the Small Ship Division, and key player in bagging international contracts while he was heading the Marketing Division. Under his leadership, CSL became a listed company after a very successful Initial Public Offer. CSL is undertaking two major expansion projects worth Rs.2,769 crores. Also CSL is making a foray into the Inland waterways transport vessel segment by forming a Joint Venture Company, at Kolkata. CSL has forged alliance with the Major Port Trusts in India, viz. Mumbai Port Trust and Kolkata Port Trust for developing and operating Ship Repair eco systems in those port trusts. CSL is also establishing a unit at Port Blair. He is trained in shipbuilding systems at IHI Shipyard at Kure, Japan and undergone JICA Specialized training at Overseas Vocational Training Centre (OVTA), Tokyo and Osaka International Centre, Osaka, Japan and did research in Joining & Welding Research Institute, during Masters in Engineering at Osaka University, Japan. He is a member of various Professional bodies including The Royal Institution of Naval Architects, UK (RINA), Institution of Naval Architects, India. He is a strong believer power of people and the "people first policy" conceived by him is aimed at steering CSL into a knowledge organization.

Shri N V Suresh Babu

Director (Operations)

Shri Suresh Babu N V assumed charge as Director (Operations) of Cochin Shipyard Ltd on 26 April 2016. He is a Graduate in Mechanical Engineering from TKM College of Engineering, Kollam. He joined Cochin Shipyard on 01 February 1986 as Management Trainee and has served in various areas of operations of the shipyard, viz. shipbuilding, Design, Ship Repair, Material and Projects Department. Prior to this appointment by the Government of India, Shri Suresh Babu has been heading the Ship Repair Division of Cochin Shipyard as Chief General Manager. In this capacity, he has spearheaded substantial growth of the Ship Repair activities of CSL including the move to set up a modern new International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) in the 42 acres of land leased from Cochin Port Trust. He is also instrumental in forging MoU arrangements for Repair of the fleet of vessels owned by the Union Territory of Lakshadweep Administration, Dredging Corporation of India and CIFNET. He is also been instrumental in CSL’s strong presence in the Naval Ship Repair segment as also repairs and upgrades of Offshore Assets.

Shri Bejoy Bhasker

Director (Technical)

Shri Bejoy Bhasker, assumed charge as Director (Technical) of Cochin Shipyard Ltd w.e.f 05 Apr 2018.Shri Bejoy Bhasker holds a degree of bachelor of Technology (Mechanical) from the University of Kerala with first rank and gold medal. He holds a master degree in Mechanical from IIT, Chennai. He completed advanced diploma in management from IGNOU. Shri Bejoy Bhasker joined Cochin Shipyard on 29 June 1988 as Executive Trainee and has served in various critical operational areas like shipbuilding, Design, Shiprepair, Projects etc. He was awarded the “Manager of the Year” award in 2014 by Kerala Management Association. He rose up in the ranks of CSL through dedicated and committed service in the last three decades.

Shri Jose V J

Director (Finance)

Shri Jose V J assumed charge as Director (Finance) of Cochin Shipyard Limited with effect from August 01, 2019. A Cost Accountant by profession Shri. Jose V.J. joined the Company as Assistant Manager on August 21, 1995. He holds a degree in Law also. He rose up in the ranks of CSL through dedicated & committed service in various capacities in the last 24 years. He is also heading the Information Systems Department.

Shri Sanjay Bandopadhyaya IAS

Part-time Official (Nominee)

Shri Sanjay Bandopadhyaya is a Part Time Official (Nominee) Director of the Company representing Ministry of Shipping, Government of India from February 03, 2020. He is a 1988 Batch IAS Officer of Madhya Pradesh Cadre. Shri Sanjay Bandopadhyaya is presently posted as Additional Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Shipping, Administration and Development of Shipping Activities, Merchant Shipping Act, Shipbuilding, International Co-operation and Treaties, Ports and stressed projects. He holds a master degree of Technology in Communications and Radar Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Bachelor degree of Engineering in Electronics and Communications Engineering and Master of Arts degree in Economics. In past he held various senior positions in both central and state governments’ viz. Principal Secretary to Government of Madhya Pradesh in charge of Dept. of Technical Educational & Skill Development, Chief Executive Officer of National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRIP), (Under Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises), Government of India, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, the Secretary of Energy (Power & Renewable Energy), Government of Madhya Pradesh, the Managing Director of Madhya Pradesh Laghu Udyog Nigam Ltd, the Secretary of Agriculture, Government of Madhya Pradesh, the Member (Finance) of Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board & Additional Secretary to Government of Madhya Pradesh. During his tenure as CEO of NATRIP, he was entrusted with the Design, Planning, Procurement, Construction & Commissioning of Testing and R&D Facilities for Automotive Sector in India, Crash Investigation and Data Analysis, Development of Testing regimes and regulations. Further, as a Joint Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, he was entrusted with the work of Road Transport Policy, Road Safety, Motor Vehicle Act, National Permit, Transport Development Council (TDC), Road Transport Corporation Act, and Carriage by Road Act etc. He was also co-ordinating the drafting of new Road Transport & Safety Bill for introduction in the cabinet He won various prestigious awards viz. The “Platinum Icon Web Ratna Award 2012” for implementing the ‘Vahan’ vehicle registration and permit system for the best citizen centric service by the Government of India, National Award for e-Governance (GOLD), 2009-10 presented for State School Portal and management through electronic platform, India Tech Foundation 2007 for second Best Reforming State in India in Power Sector.

Shri Jyothilal K.R. IAS is an Official Part Time Director representing government of Kerala. He joined CSL w.e.f 20 April 2018. He holds a degree of bachelor of technology in Chemical Engineering. He is an IAS Officer of 1993 batch (Kerala cadre) and served in various departments of the Government of Kerala viz. Land Revenue Management and District Administration, Fisheries / Agriculture & Cooperation, Information Technology, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs etc. He is currently posted as Principal Secretary (Transport), Government of Kerala.

Smt. Roopa Shekhar Rai

Non Official Part time Director

Smt. Roopa Shekhar Rai is a Non Official Part Time Director in our Board w.e.f 21st March 2016. She is a Science graduate and has acquired post graduation in Public Administration. She also holds a Diploma in homeopathy. She has worked as President in (VIA Ladies Wings) & Secretary General (Vidarbha Economic Development). She is currently holding the position of President in Shagun Mahila Audyogik Sahakari Sanstha (Women's Industrial Society) & Vice President of Red Cross Society of India (Nagpur District). She has been engaged in various social activities such as helping women to become self independent, providing free homeopathy medicines to poor & free counseling to destitute women. She has a number of professional achievements to her credit including her involvement which was instrumental in the drive of "Nagpur city green city", she has been joining hands with Nagpur Municipal Corporation for clean city Drive and she is the first person in Nagpur to initiate the proposal for safe disposal of hospital waste through incineration & she has also started a school in U.P., Kushinagar to provide low cost education to poor children in the district. She was also nominated for Mahila Udhyogika by Butibori Industries Association in 1996.

Shri Radhakrishna Menon is a Non Official Part Time Director in our Board w.e.f. 21st March 2016. He is an Agriculturalist, Businessman and a Social worker. He is the President of Thrickodithanam Maharashtram, the famous Vishnava Temple; President of Travancore Travel and Tourism Co- operative Society and Executive Committee Member of World Malayalee Organisation. He was the Vice President of NSS (Nair Service Society) Karayogam and District Council member of Library Council, Kottayam. He is graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and also holds a Bachelor Degree in Law.

Adv. Krishna Das E

Non Official Part time Director

Adv. Krishna Das E is a Non Official Part Time Director in our Board w.e.f. 21st March 2016. He is graduated in Bachelor of Commerce from Govt. Victoria College, Palakkad in the year 1991 & also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Law. He is practicing as a Lawyer in different courts of Palakkad District in Kerala for more than 20 years. He had written a book on the topic "Press vs Judiciary: Press reports and its impact on the Judicial Mind" in the year 2004. He has also written an Article “Go Slow India” which was published in the Kerala Law Times, a leading Law Journal published from Kochi, Kerala. He is currently holding the following positions in various social forums: Director of National Yuva Co-operative Society, New-Delhi, a multi-state multi-purpose Cooperative Society and the Convenor of Jana- Nidhi, the financial division of NYCS and also holds a Life time membership in Red Cross Society and former office-bearer for Palakkad District and also a Governing Body member of Vyasa Vidya Peetom, a prestigious higher secondary school having more than 2000 students in Palakkad. He is presently initiating the work of Kovida Division of NYCS in Kerala, which is a partner with National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and have initiated the work of starting Skill Development Centres in Kerala for the successful implementation of the Pradhan Manthri Koushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY).

Shri. Jiji Thomson is a Non Official Part Time Director of our Company from July 15, 2017. He holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in economics from University of Kerala and degree of master of social science in (Public Economic Management) from University of Birmingham, UK. He belongs to the 1980 batch of the Indian administrative service (Kerala cadre). In the past, he has been the chief secretary of the Government of Kerala from January 2015 to February 2016 and director general in Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports from March 2013 to January 2015.

He has done an executive development programme with Kellogs School of Management, Northwestern University, USA. He is currently associated with Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He is the former director of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. He has received “Excellence in Teaching” award from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.

Shri. Nanda Kumaran Puthezhath is a Non Official Part Time Director of our Company from July 15, 2017. He holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Calicut University. He is also a certified associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. He has been associated with State Bank of India since 1975 to 2011, post which he was appointed as the managing director of State Bank of Travancore from 2011 to 2013. He has also held various positions including the president of MobMe Wireless Solutions Limited, the chief executive officer of Alpha Palliative Care and the managing director of Atlas Jewellery India Limited.
